OVERVIEW
REMOVES CHLORINE, TASTE & ODOUR
Activated carbon has a huge inner surface area. As water flows through the carbon bed, chlorine, organic compounds, colour and bad tastes stick to the carbon and are removed from the water. This process is called adsorption.
Carbon filters are essential before RO, because chlorine damages RO membranes. They are also widely used for drinking water and food and beverage production.
TYPICAL USES
- Chlorine removal before RO
- Drinking and bottled water
- Food and beverage process water
- Colour and organics in well water
HOW IT WORKS
INSIDE A CARBON FILTER
Water flows down through the carbon bed and leaves through the underdrain. The bed is backwashed automatically, and the carbon is replaced when it is used up.
STEP 1
Raw water
Tap, well, river or sea
STEP 1
Feed water
Chlorinated or coloured water
STEP 2
Inlet distributor
Spreads water over the carbon bed
STEP 1
Raw water
Tap, well, river or sea
STEP 3
Carbon bed
Adsorbs chlorine and organics
STEP 1
Raw water
Tap, well, river or sea
STEP 4
Underdrain
Collects the treated water
STEP 1
Raw water
Tap, well, river or sea
STEP 5
Treated water
No chlorine, taste or odour
