Turning Seawater into a Vital Resource

Raw Water Specification

  • The raw water sourced from the Seawater was highly turbid.

  • TDS 40.000 ppm

AQUALINE took on the challenge of providing a sustainable water solution in Morocco by developing a containerized desalination plant designed to transform seawater into high-quality process water.

Strategically located in Morocco, this plant consists of 36 containers and has a capacity of 30,000 m³ per day, effectively addressing the region’s need for reliable water supply. The plant sources raw seawater with a high Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) level of 40,000 ppm and reduces it to less than 400 ppm through a comprehensive treatment process.

The system begins by drawing seawater into a raw water tank, followed by pre-treatment using a disc filter, where chlorine and coagulant are added to enhance filtration. The water then undergoes ultrafiltration (UF) to eliminate finer particles, supported by blowers for optimal flow and pressure.

After passing through the SWRO (Seawater Reverse Osmosis) system for further purification, the treated water is stored in a product tank, ready for industrial use. This modular and containerized design not only ensures rapid deployment but also reduces environmental impact, aligning with AQUALINE’s commitment to sustainable solutions. Through this innovative project, AQUALINE is turning seawater into a valuable resource, supporting water security and industrial growth in Morocco.

Aqualine was responsible for the design, supply, install, testing and commission on the river water treatment package.

We’ll highlight a few of the technical particularities of this project:

  • High-Capacity Production: The plant can process up to 30,000 m³/day of seawater.

  • Modular Design: The system comprises 36 containers, allowing for optimized space utilization and easy deployment.

  • High-Quality Output: Treated water meets stringent process water standards, reducing TDS from 40,000 ppm to less than 400 ppm.

  • Advanced Filtration: The treatment process includes disc filtration, ultrafiltration (UF), and seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) to ensure consistent water quality.

  • Automation and Control: The system is fully automated, with remote monitoring and control capabilities.
