OVERVIEW
BIOLOGY THAT WORKS ON CARRIERS
MBBR is an aerobic biological process. Bacteria grow on small plastic carriers that move freely inside the reactor, and break down the organic pollution in the wastewater.

Because the biomass lives on the carriers, there's no sludge return, and the plant needs much less space than conventional activated sludge. Only the biomass that detaches from the carriers has to be separated from the treated water.
TYPICAL USES
- Hotels, compounds and camps

- Towns and residential areas

- Industrial wastewater with organic load

- Upgrading existing plants for more capacity
HOW IT WORKS
INSIDE AN MBBR PLANT
Wastewater is screened, then flows through aerated tanks full of moving carriers. Bacteria on the carriers clean the water, and a clarifier separates the treated effluent.
STEP 1
Raw water
Tap, well, river or sea
STEP 1
Wastewater inflow
Domestic or industrial wastewater
STEP 2
Screening
Removes solids, rags and grit
