Smart Reuse Solutions: AQUALINE’s Role in Advanced Wastewater Recovery

Project Overview

  • Type: Water Treatment System

  • Source: Tertiary Treated Wastewater

  •  Application: General Use

  • Capacity: 14,600 CMD

  • Scope of Work: Sub-contractor

  • Location: UAE

  • Sector: Marin - Ports

  • Project Status: Finished

1- Project Details

The project was initiated by AD Ports Group to support their sustainability goals and reduce dependency on potable water for non-potable applications. By utilizing tertiary treated wastewater, the group aimed to implement a practical and environmentally responsible solution for water reuse across port facilities and logistics zones.

2- Customer Need

AD Ports Group required a robust, high-efficiency filtration system to polish the effluent from an existing wastewater treatment plant, making it suitable for general use such as landscape irrigation, road washing, and industrial processes. The solution needed to ensure water quality, system durability, and low maintenance for continuous operation in a high-demand environment.

3- Challenge

Key project challenges included meeting environmental and municipal water reuse standards by ensuring consistent high-quality tertiary effluent with low turbidity and suspended solids, integrating the system within limited space and existing infrastructure, and enabling automated, low-intervention operation for large-scale reuse.

4- Aqualine Solution

AQUALINE Water Technology delivered a modular sand filtration system designed to polish tertiary-treated wastewater. The system includes horizontal sand filters housed in a compact, containerized setup, allowing easy installation, scalability, and reliable performance under fluctuating conditions.

5- Impact & Environmental Effect

  • Reducing the demand on potable water networks

  • Enhancing water reuse and circular resource management

  • Minimizing discharge and supporting zero-liquid-discharge objectives

  • Promoting sustainable operations across port and logistics areas

6- Performance

The system has demonstrated high reliability and performance, consistently delivering filtered water suitable for a wide range of non-potable uses. It operates under varying loads with minimal downtime or maintenance requirements.
