Ensuring Water Security in Kuwait

Raw Water Specification

  • Raw Water Source: Well water with inlet TDS 18,800ppm.

  • Request is Desalination of low-salinity water and its use in emergencies and enhancing water security for the State of Kuwait

Water security remains a critical challenge for Kuwait in 2024, driven by the country's high water consumption rates and dependence on desalination. Ranking third globally in water consumption, Kuwait's water needs are increasing due to population growth, infrastructure development, and agricultural expansion.

According to the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, the country’s water demand is projected to rise significantly, reaching 585 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) by the end of this year, and potentially climbing to 800 MIGD in the future. This escalating demand underscores the importance of innovative water solutions to secure a sustainable future.

AQUALINE’s Response:
To address this pressing issue, AQUALINE has proposed a mobile water treatment unit to meet Kuwait’s drinking water needs and bolster water security. Following a comprehensive assessment of water requirements for each site, AQUALINE initiated the project’s design phase, focusing on solutions tailored to local water characteristics.

Core Technology:

  • Pre-Treatment System: Incorporates sand filters to eliminate suspended particles and enhance water quality before advanced treatment.

  • Reverse Osmosis (RO) Treatment: Utilizes membrane technology to process low-salinity water, making it safe for drinking.

  • Energy Efficiency: Integrates an energy recovery system to minimize electricity costs associated with the desalination process.

By implementing this mobile and energy-efficient solution, AQUALINE aims to significantly improve water availability and sustainability in Kuwait, reinforcing the nation’s resilience against its harsh climate and limited freshwater resources.

Aqualine was responsible for the design, supply, install, testing and commission on the river water treatment package.

We’ll highlight a few of the technical particularities of this project:

  • Reduced TDS value from 18,000ppm to <600ppm

  • Low Operation Power

  • Establish a potable water supply.

  • Container system utilized to optimize space for processing equipment.

  • Fully automated system with remote control capabilities through phone apps.
