Transforming Well Water for Sustainable Agriculture

Treating well water with TDS 7,000 ppm to clean water sutable for irrigation
AQUALINE took on the challenge of providing a sustainable water solution for a palm farm in Qatar, where agricultural production faced significant challenges due to the high salinity of well water. The goal was to treat well water with a Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) level of 7,000 ppm and transform it into clean, irrigation-ready water with a TDS of less than 500 ppm.

To achieve this, AQUALINE designed and implemented a containerized BWRO (Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis) system, leveraging the efficiency and flexibility of containerized units. The system was designed with a production capacity of 18,000 cubic meters per day (CMD), structured as 15 modular units of 1,200 CMD each. This setup not only facilitated rapid deployment but also optimized space usage and maintenance.

The treatment process began with thorough pre-treatment to remove larger particulates and reduce organic load, ensuring the longevity and efficiency of the RO membranes. The core of the system, the BWRO units, then performed high-efficiency desalination to achieve the required water quality. The treated water was made suitable for irrigation, thereby supporting the palm farm’s sustainable operations despite the region’s arid conditions.

By transforming saline well water into a viable resource for agriculture, AQUALINE’s innovative approach not only enhanced water security but also promoted the sustainable cultivation of palm trees, helping local farmers thrive in Qatar’s challenging climate.
Aqualine was responsible for the design, supply, install, testing and commission on the river water treatment package.

We’ll highlight a few of the technical particularities of this project:

-
Purpose: Treating well water with a TDS of 7,000 ppm to produce clean water suitable for irrigation, achieving a TDS of less than 500 ppm.
-
Solution: Implementation of a Containerized BWRO (Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis) system.
-
Technology: The plant features a Containerized RO system with an 18,000 CMD (Cubic Meters per Day) capacity, configured as 15 units of 1,200 CMD each, with comprehensive pre-treatment to ensure optimal performance.
-
Outcome: Production of clean water that meets quality standards for irrigation at the palm farm, promoting sustainable agriculture in Qatar’s arid environment. The modular, containerized design enhances mobility, rapid deployment, and efficient space utilization, while the advanced automation system ensures reliable, continuous operation.
