Transforming Saline Well Water into a Sustainable Irrigation Source in the Qatari Desert

Project Overview

  • Type: Water Treatment System

  • Raw Water Source: Well Water

  • Application: Irrigation Water

  • Capacity: 18,000 CMD

  • Scope of Work: Sub-contractor

  • Location: Qatar

  • Sector : Agricultural Farms

  • Project Status: Finished

1- Project Details

AQUALINE delivered a turnkey brackish water treatment system designed to support agricultural farms in remote desert areas of Qatar. Engineered for high reliability, the solution treats highly saline well water and converts it into irrigation-grade quality.

2- Customer Need

Farms in remote desert areas of Qatar were experiencing limited agricultural productivity due to the poor quality of available groundwater. Reliant on well water with high salinity levels, irrigation posed a serious risk of soil degradation and crop damage. To ensure sustainable farming, the client required a reliable, high-capacity water treatment solution capable of reducing salinity and delivering consistent, irrigation-grade water.

3- Challenge

The primary challenge was treating highly saline well water that exceeded acceptable limits for agricultural use. The solution needed to ensure water quality suitable for irrigation while protecting long-term soil health. To meet evolving operational needs, the system was required to be modular and mobile easily relocated between farming sites. Given the off-grid desert environment, the treatment plant also had to operate with low energy consumption and minimal infrastructure dependency, all while maintaining efficiency under harsh climatic conditions and maximizing water use for sustainable agriculture.

4- Aqualine Solution

To meet these challenges, AQUALINE engineered and delivered a Containerized Brackish Water RO (BWRO) System with a total capacity of 18,000 CMD (1200 CMD x 15 Sets) . The system was housed in modular containers for easy transport and setup, enabling quick deployment across multiple farming zones.

5- Impact & Environmental Effect

This project delivered essential irrigation water to support food production in desert areas, enabling farmers to:

  • Increase crop yield and diversity

  • Reduce soil salinity risks

  • Preserve groundwater resources

  • Expand farming operations sustainably
The removable design also minimizes environmental impact by reducing the need for permanent infrastructure.

6- Performance

The system has consistently delivered high-quality irrigation water, operating with minimal downtime and optimal efficiency. AQUALINE’s remote monitoring tools and responsive technical support ensure smooth performance under demanding environmental conditions. The project has maintained the same high level of efficiency over the years, with reliable output and consistently strong operational performance.
